LEGAZPI CITY -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Bicol is now veering all its efforts to ensure and fast track implementation of various infrastructure projects this year with a total allocation of P8.65 billion under the National Expenditure Program (NEP).

DPWH Bicol officer in charge Ronnel M. Tan said the amount represents a slight increase from the last year’s budget of P8.542 billion under the 2013 General Appropriation Act.

Tan said the allotment will fund a total of 247 projects for implementation in the entire Bicol Region.

“Some P2.388 billion is earmarked to Albay for 33 projects; P1.108 billion to Camarines Norte for 46 projects; P2.425 billion to Camarines Sur for 73 projects; P891.061 million to Catanduanes for 31 projects; P840.309 million Masbate for 26 projects; and, P996.448 million to Sorsogon for 38 projects,” he elaborated.

The allocation, according to Tan, also include the P4.098 billion worth of projects which will be implemented by the DPWH regional office, particularly those projects beyond the limit of authority granted to District Engineering Offices (DEOs) but whose amount does not exceed P150 million per DPWH Department Order No. 55, series of 2010.

“This include one important project worth P1.420 billion for the construction and/or improvement of access roads leading to airports, seaports and to declared tourists’ destinations under the DOT-DPWH Convergence Program on Enhancing Tourism Access,” Tan said.

These roads target the increase in tourist arrivals thereby will correspondingly uplift the economic condition of Bicolanos through forecasted boom in the tourism industry. (MAL/LVC-DPWH5/PIA5/Albay)
