GUINOBATAN, Albay – With the rehabilitation of the Travesia Bridge here, train coaches are expected to reach and convey passengers to and from Legazpi City, an official of the Philippine National Railways said in a letter to Albay governor Joey Sarte Salceda, who is also the chairman of the Bicol Regional Development Council (BRDC).

“In line with the government’s program to completely revive the operation of the PNR in order to serve the needs of the commuting public, it will soon be resuming regular train operations from Manila up to Legazpi City,” PNR General Manager Junio M. Ragrario said in his letter to Salceda.

Ragrario, however, cited some problems such as various structures built on and along its railroad tracks going to Legazpi City which is the PNR’s permanent right of way.

“These structures impede the route of the commuter trains as well as posing danger to both the commuters and personnel of the PNR and those who may be occupying such structures including the general public,” the official said.

In order to avoid mishaps, the PNR management has requested the provincial government to demolish structures and clear the area.

Ragrario, however did not specify in the letter which structures he was referring to.

The PNR conducted a test run last October 9 from Manila to Legazpi City.
